Gold Connections, led by frontman Will Marsh, is making waves once again with the release of their latest single, “Ammunition,” from their upcoming album Fortune, set to drop on October 25 via New Orleans-based indie label Well Kept Secret. The track showcases a power pop rock mix with a nod to classic influences like Tom Petty while blending a nostalgic 90s flair.

Marsh, who pressed pause on his music career in 2021 to pursue an MFA in New Orleans, found himself immersed in the city’s vibrant culture. “Music wasn’t at the forefront of my mind… but it was chasing me down,” he reflects. After relocating and working with Habitat for Humanity, Marsh felt the pull of music again. The city’s energy, combined with the challenges of the pandemic, became the catalyst for Fortune.

Recorded with a new lineup, including members from fellow New Orleans band Motel Radio and Marsh’s cousin, guitarist Fraser Wright, Fortune captures the essence of both Marsh’s Virginia roots and the psychedelic atmosphere of post-pandemic New Orleans. The album’s 11 tracks navigate themes of remorse, intoxication, and rebirth—concepts that resonate deeply with the city’s own history and spirit.

The recording process took place at Dockside Studios, just outside Lafayette, LA, where the band was inspired by the moody, gothic environment. Wright, a Loyola University graduate, and Marsh formed a strong creative partnership. “I’d always been into the music too—convenient how everything worked out,” Wright shared.

Fortune is a geographical and spiritual journey that echoes the mysteries of New Orleans. Marsh likens their experience to that of indie rock legends like Alex Chilton, saying, “I like to think we exist in the long legacy of wayward indie rockers who find some peace in New Orleans.”

With Fortune, Gold Connections captures the mystique and power of the Crescent City, weaving its stories and landscapes into a captivating indie rock narrative. Pre-orders are available now, and fans can experience the magic when the album drops on October 25.
