New Orleans based artist Sabine McCalla continues to build momentum toward her debut album Don’t Call Me Baby with the release of her new single “Two of Hearts.” Out now via Gar Hole Records, the track captures McCalla’s signature blend of romance, storytelling, and Crescent City soul, a sound that feels right at home in the city she now calls her own.

Born to first generation Haitian immigrants and raised in New York, McCalla eventually found herself pulled south to New Orleans, drawn as she puts it, “by the music, the food, and the culture.” That influence runs deep through Don’t Call Me Baby, which arrives November 7 and threads together the city’s blues, R&B, and folk traditions with a global palette of sounds.

“Two of Hearts,” inspired by a Mardi Gras moment when a would be suitor handed her the titular playing card, reflects both McCalla’s romantic storytelling and her connection to the city’s magic. “This is a love song about my suitors,” she told Rock and Roll Globe, explaining that the song began as a collection of journal entries about three different men, including the one who eventually became her partner.

The single follows earlier releases “Sunshine Kisses” and “Anything With You,” each showcasing a different facet of McCalla’s musical identity. With Don’t Call Me Baby, she is poised to introduce a sound that is as eclectic as New Orleans itself, spanning country, soul, Caribbean rhythms, and the timeless energy of the city’s street parades.

The album, produced by fellow New Orleanian Sam Doores of The Deslondes, features a roster of local collaborators including Ajai Combelic, Roy Brent, Gina Leslie, and The Lostines, giving the project the communal warmth of a neighborhood jam session. Songs like “Louisiana Hound Dog” and “I Went to the Levee” lean into the city’s rhythm and resilience, while “Deep River,” a duet with her sister Leyla McCalla, ties their Haitian roots to Southern spiritual traditions.

For McCalla, New Orleans is more than home, it is an instrument. Its humidity, its heritage, and its heart all seep into her voice and her songwriting. Don’t Call Me Baby promises to be not only a breakthrough for McCalla but also a love letter to the city that continues to inspire her.

“Two of Hearts” is available now. Don’t Call Me Baby arrives November 7 via Gar Hole Records.
